About

Welcome

A warm welcome to the Sandridge Road Allotment Association website, which we hope will provide useful information to you about the allotment site, obtaining a plot, joining our association, and the benefits associated with membership.

The Sandridge Road allotment site has been operated and operated for many, many years by St Albans District Council. It is by far the biggest in the area as you will see from the drone photographs, with in excess of 200 plots.

The idea of forming a members association began nearly 20 years ago when demand for allotments was very low and many parts of the site were not cultivated. The association was formed with the aims of providing help and support to our members, helping protect our allotments, forging a relationship with SADC and to negotiate improvements in the site management and facilities. The association has grown to more than 120 members, has good links with the council, and continues to fight on behalf of members, opposing increases in the cost of renting plots and working with the council to get neglected plots back into cultivation.

We publish a newsletter several times a year, full of seasonal and topical advice, information about events held on the site, and updating members of our work with the council.

Please note that the SRAA does not manage the site, that is the responsibility St Albans District Council, and you will find a link if you wish to apply for a plot or report problems in the section More/Frequently Asked Questions.
